After something like a year, maybe more than that, I’m finally done with Les Miserables. And you might notice it’s not moving to my recommended list.
There were lots of good parts. But in a book that size, there were also lots of really bad parts. That’s why it took so long for me to read it. For about nine months there I just fell into a section of the book that didn’t hold my interest for more than about a paragraph.
It doesn’t have a happy ending, either. I like happy endings.

yeah, for that to be such an excellent story, its a largely unenjoyable book.

The end is not so so miserables. Javert sets him free in the end- grace was given many times and he finally understands- he gives grace. The Bishop embodies Christlikeness, then Valjean kinda, then finally, Javert. He had lied b4 and it got him nowhere, but the truth set him free! Have you seen the movie with Claire Danes and that guy… from Schindler’s List. That’s a good one. The musical is very good as well. It kept reminding me of that Seinfeld episode.
