Life in the city

Filed under: general — bdparker @ 6:33 pm

I called the Nederlander Theatre today to exchange my rent tickets for another date. The chap on the other end wasn’t giving me a lot of love. He said I’d have to call the day of the show to find out if I could get in. Not being satisfied with that, I called back to see if I couldn’t schedule something in advance. Note, this occured at approximately 5:30 PM on a Tuesday. It went something like this:

BoxOfficeJunkie: You’ll have to talk to a manager to set that up.
bdparker: Okay, can I talk to a manager?
BoxOfficeJunkie: You’ll have to call back.
bdparker: When?
BoxOfficeJunkie: During the day.
bdparker: wha? When can i talk to a manager?
BoxOfficeJunkie: During the day
bdparker: Uh, when is the day?
BoxOfficeJunkie: We open at 10.
bdparker: Until when?
BoxOfficeJunkie: Call back during the day.
bdparker: When do you close?
BoxOfficeJunkie: 8
bdparker: but…so, from 10-8.
(I’m trying so hard to figure this out)
bdparker: It’s between 10 and 8. So when can i speak to a manager?
(This guy does drugs.)
BoxOfficeJunkie: Call back during the day.
(I’m doing my quick timezone conversion; 5:30 PM in Raleigh is….5:30 PM in New York.)
bdparker: It is the day. Where’s the manager.
BoxOfficeJunkie: I don’t know, he’s out.

This being the first actual answer I had gotten to a question, I took it as a sign that we were beginning to communicate and asked the guy out. So to recap;
The manager is there during the day. The day is between 10 and 8. Not all hours between 10 and 8 are the day. To find out which hours will be in the day, you’ll have to call the day of that hour.
