I had to split town again and get back to Raleigh for commencement on Saturday. No, I didn’t graduate. I was the big dork who served as a marshal for all my friends who were graduating. Congrats guys. I’m going to miss all of you that are going away. I’m hanging out here for another football season.
Well, I would say commencement was interesting. Although the AP played it down, Phil Donahue made quite an impression. Watching from the side of the stage, I was surprised to see students and faculty alike walk out by the dozens. I was not surprised by the boos and catcalls, as Donahue used a ceremony meant to honor the acchievement of these 4000 graduates to capture the spotlight and put forth his political agenda. It’s unfortunate that he can’t get a talkshow anymore.
